About The Courses

 

The Level 1 - 3 qualifications in Coaching Strength and Conditioning for

Sport (QCF) are designed to provide learners aged 16 and over with a progressive

level of knowledge  and skills that are needed to build and lead well-constructed

strength and conditioning programmes. You will develop an understanding of how

to plan, conduct and evaluate strength and conditioning sessions for individual

athletes and teams.

If you are over 16 years of age and wish to develop your knowledge and skills in the

area of coaching strength and conditioning for sport, then these courses are

definitely for you. They are ideal courses for P.E. Teachers, Personal Trainers,

Physiotherapists, Fitness Instructors or Sports Coaches.

 
What will I learn?

 

The Level 1 course:

 

If you are over 16 years of age and have an interest in learning how to coach strength and conditioning for sport, then the 1st4sport Level 1 Award in Coaching Strength and Conditioning for Sport (QCF) is designed for you:

 

  • safe and ethical coaching in strength and conditioning

  • basic anatomy & physiology for exercise

  • warm-up and cool-down principles

  • how to plan and to deliver: warm ups, cool downs, fundamental strength, speed and agility.

  • the delivery and review of strength and conditioning coaching.

  • Performance analysis for strength and conditioning in sport

 
The Level 2 course:

 

If you are over 17 years of age, have an understanding of how to coach and understanding principles that apply to health and fitness, then the 1st4sport Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Strength and Conditioning for Sport (QCF) is designed for you:

 

  • Safe and ethical coaching in strength and conditioning.

  • How to plan and prepare to deliver strength and conditioning sessions

  • How to effective coach and review your strength and conditioning sessions and programmes.

  • Anatomy & Physiology for Exercise

  • Speed training theory and drills

  • Power and plyometric theory and exercises

  • how to effectively plan and coach resistance training exercises in a gym based environment

  • how to coach and design speed, movement and agility programmes for athletes of all sports

  • how to plan a basic strength, hypertrophy and power programme for an athlete

  • deliver a linked and progressive strength training programme

  • deliver a linked and progressive training programme for either speed or endurance

 
The Level 3 Course:

 

Physical conditioning for sport is becoming increasingly important. Conditioning of athletes not only enables them to perform better, but also reduces the risk of injuries. Getting your conditioning program right will give your athlete or team an unparalleled competitive edge.
We are pleased to be able to offer the newly Ofqual approved ACTIVE IQ accredited qualification at level 3 in Coaching Strength and Conditioning in Exercise and Sport. The majority of your learning will take place in practical training environment, you will not only learn from current practicing strength and conditioning coaches but will get to use some of the most advanced technologies in sport and exercise science, furthermore, you will explore some advanced testing protocols to inform athlete program planning.

• Professional Practice and CPD in Coaching Strength & Conditioning 
• Strength and Conditioning a Progression from Child to Youth to Adult
• Principles of Training for Athletic Development
• Monitoring Performance
• Human Movement Science and Basic Principles of Biomechanics
• Warm Up Revisited
• Speed, Agility and Quickness (SAQ) Training


Day 2
• Team/Individual Screening and Needs Analysis
• Programming and Periodisation 
• Load, Volume and Injury Relationships
• Energy Systems Development and Dominance by Sport
• Strength, Power an Endurance Training
• Sport and Position Specific Testing
• Administering and Interpreting a Lactate Threshold Test


Day 3
• Application of wearable technology in Sport for Training and Injury Management
• Practical Sport Specific Training Techniques
• Recovery Strategies, Massage, Ice Baths, Hot/Cold Contrast, Cryo-Massage
• Physically Excelling in Competition, By Chance or By Plan?

 

Day 4
• Presentations and Assessments

 

Entry Requirements


Learners must hold a min Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing (or equivalent), a Level 2 Coaching qualification or a Level 2 Activity Leadership qualification. There is an element of communication (discussing, presenting, reading and writing) involved and learners should have basic skills in communication pitched at level 2.
